Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Ordered 3 things- one I don't remember, one steak taco and one goat quesadilla. The taco was good. The quesadilla was damn good. The goat was tender and flavorful. The cheeses mixed together for tangy, salty goodness. Now the other stuff. The cashier did not speak any English. Ordering was done with pointing. The person in front of me was paying by credit card and the machine was malfunctioning. The staff did not start his order or take any other orders until the problem was fixed. I'll be back. Just not often.

I just went in there today so I'll start of by saying that the service is pretty quick. I ordered some to go and it was done in about 10 minutes. From observin, it didn't seem like a restaurant as no one takes or orders, you go and order it yourself and everything . The food was pretty good and the kids quesadilla which I bought wash a big order with fries as well. The prices in everything seems pretty steep compared to other restaurants that are "formal" and give a bit more food . They seem to be under staffed , with only one cashier And one lady bringing out the food . Over all pretty good food, decent service, and the place looks decent

Got a Mexican style beef sandwich. Was very big, probably as filling as a big five guys burger and the taste was very good, the avocados on the sandwich were fresh, the bread was perfect for that type of sandwich, only gripe was that the meat was a little tough; it made the sandwich kind of tricky to eat. Yeah the lady at the counter didn't speak English, but so what. Use your fingers, people! It's 2013 and you live in Suburban DC, learn some Spanglish!

Went there today for the first time and it was fantastic! The service was okay, but the food was delicious. I ordered a quesadilla (pollo con queso), while my girl ordered the guarache de carne. The menu has an excellent variety of dishes, all fairly inexpensive. The portions are more than enough for one person. Our food was amazing. Can't wait to go back there again to try something new.

Tacos are outstanding, and you can't beat the value. Without a doubt some of the best Tacos to be found anywhere. Helps to know a little Spanish when you order.

This place was a pleasant surprise for me and my family. We had drove past this place for at least a year, and one day i stopped in with my daughter who had expressed her wishes for carne asada. The service is good. The food is great, and its in one of the better locations off of 450. Definitely worth a visit.

The food here is excellent! My boyfriend and I each got a chicken quesadilla. They came with four spicy sauces to use, but I don't know what they were called 'cause I don't like spicy food. They gave us plenty of food, and we were both extremely satisfied. There is definitely a language barrier. Please know how to say what you want in Spanish so you won't have a hard time. Overall, we had a great experience

Best yuca and tres leches in town. For a minute I was on a quest for tres leches in the Washington, D.C. metro area after eating a pieces of tres leches at a birthday party. They said they purchased the cake from West Virginia. I thought to myself there are several bakeries, Mexican food places, Latin food places, etc. right here in the D.C. area so there would be no need to drive to West Va to get a slice of cake. Goodness! I did not know this would be such a tall order. I went to one restaurant and it tasted like they dipped their cake in milk per order Yuck! Other places just were not the taste and texture I was looking for, then I stumbled upon Taqueria 3 Reyes when I was at a meeting at a nearby hotel. I will continue my quest to find the best tres leches, however right now Taqueria 3 Reyes has my vote hands down. I have tried Yuca at several restaurants in the area and no one in my opinion seems to cook them quite like Taqueria 3 Reyes. They are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Delicious. I always order the Chicken Cemita when I go. It is a delicious chicken sandwich. The bread is soft. The chicken is lightly breaded. It also comes with avocado (one of my faves). I visit this restaurant at least once a month and highly recommend it. The food is authentic and made from natives. Sometimes there can be a language barrier, so you might want to brush up on your Spanish.

Last few times I've been here I've been very disappointed by the customer service. I may be wrong but it seems the Spanish speaking customers get priority over English only speaking ones (30+ minutes to get order, ridiculous!). Happened to us twice, pretty disappointed and it won't happen again as I won't be returning.....Peace!

I was on the fence about how good this restaurant was. After eating there, trying their sauces (spicy). So far I've only tried the tacos, all the ones I've had are season nicely and cooked properly. As far as the service, not good, pay before you eat sort of thing. They don't follow through what they say (still waiting for my cup with ice). If you can get over the service, the food is ok.

Where do I start... First off I work at a landscaping company so we've ordered from here enough to know how things go at 3 Reyes. The food I've eaten has always been packed with flavor. Can't say it's always been the freshest but it does have a burst of flavor. However the real issue is within their customer service. Now at first I thought it was a language barrier thing but after speaking with some Hispanic co workers they are rude to everyone. Example: The companies production manager went in there the other day to order and he was literally standing there for all of 30 seconds picking what to order when the lady behind the register told him in Spanish " if you don't hurry up you need to get out of line so I can take other people". Another Example: Credit Card machine was down at the restaurant however they didn't bother to tell us that when ordering over the phone. They waited till we showed up to pay and pickup a office order for 3 people with only a credit card and no cash. Then tells us we could only have the food if we went an got cash. They wouldn't write the card number down or let us get them on the next order. And at this time we were ordering from them at least 3 times a week... Another example: I went in there with family and friends and was told they don't have sour cream... An outright lie for what reason???? Save money on sauces... That's simply idiotic. Raise your prices if you need to but don't outright lie saying you don't have it and then serve an entree that clearly has sour cream on it... Another example: we asked for extra yellow sauce and was told they had no more. This was another time ordering from them. Plain and simple I can't support a company who outright lies, has no loyalty to clients and is inexcusably rude to customers. I have more instances I could mention. However I think you get the point. Food is flavorful, service is horrible. Don't waste your money. There are many other spots with great food and service. Pollo Tipico is one and it's right down the street with delicious chicken and pupusas. (Side Note: If they corrected their customer service I would return. However after about 20 chances counting myself and co-workers experience and every time having a issue. I won't be spending my hard earned money there anytime soon.)

Fine Mexican food in Maryland? FOUND. Since moving here from California, we have been yearning for a good taco, and people have recommended places where your only response would be, "Hmmm..." We were looking for an authentic street taco. Luckily I was talking to my cousin and she recommended this place, "it has menudo and flan." LEGIT. SOLD. We are going. Read some YELP reviews about the main location and it seems like someone found maggots in their food, so we decided to come to this location. We walked in and immediately felt like we were transported back to the west coast. National colors of Mexico on the walls? Check. Order here sign? Check. Juke Box named "Quiero Calle?" Check. Large colorful Virgin de Guadalupe statue in the corner with flowers and Christmas lights? Check. Station for pickled veggies and small plastic/foam containers? Check. Cholula and Valentino's Hot Sauce on the tables? CHECK. We got several tacos, each a steal for $2.60 and a menudo, which was off menu but they had other sopas. An horchata and a glass bottle coke. Huge portions for the price. Their motto is Fine Mexican Food and they were right. There was a contant line to order the whole time we were there. Everything was fresh. No soggy or cracking tortillas here. Just straight up legit.

I had to make a yelp account just for this one. They close at 10:30 me and my wife walk around in @ 9:55. As soon as we walk in we get the dirtiest look from the lady behind the register. Tells us they only have tacos and tortas. So we are ok with that. They bring our food out. And this other lady starts mopping with ammonia or bleach not sure but I can taste that over my tacos. My wife had trouble breathing so we got a box to go. When I told the lady about it and that they shouldn't do that when there are still customers there she just rolled her eyes at me. And went to put her mop away. I was not looking for freebies but I didn't even get an apologie. Unbelivable. There food was nothing special. You want real Mexican try tacos moyas in Alexandria , va. They have great food and the people are friendly.

Extremely unsatisfied with the food. Ordered chicken tacos and seafood soup. Starting with the soup the fish and crabs where old. Not fresh at all. The shrimp was overly cooked, it tastes like it was reheated. Very displeased with the ford and the cost was outrages. The chicken tacos were okay nothing to go back for. In regards to the Service, i placed My order first. And was the last one to receive it. I understand certain foods take longer than others. I asked the lady at the front how long it would take she said 8 minutes. Overall it took 40 min. No bothered to come out to apologize for the wait seemed like no one was virtuous of your time. I will no longer go to this location. Food was old and expensive. I would NOT suggest this location.

First time here. Their food is authentic but it's just ok. No welcome or chips and salsa to get the game started. The black beans were dry and tasteless. My al pastor pork tasted just like my daughter pork barbacoa. My other daughter wanted a quesadilla withe the pork on the side. The young lady didn't understand what I wanted after I explained it several times so we got a quesadilla the way it's normally served but with chicken instead. The yellow rice was just ok. Now their flan was very good in my opinion. My family and I were not impressed. Hope you can speak Spanish.

Can I give this place ZERO stars? This experience here has brought me out of my 2 month behind on Yelp reviews out of hiding. I truly believe the people that reviewed this place had to have been paid or they have never had good Mexican food on the left side of our Country. I'm from Ca and I get good Mexican at pretty much any corner. I came here with my Husband and my 2 yr old/1 yr old. Besides the stares that never left us, we walked into blaring Mexican ballad music day up in this joint. When say "Blaring"... ... I couldn't make conversation with my husband or kids. I have nothing against the music (I'm Half Mex) so when I asked my husband if he could "politely" ask them to turn it down. They agreed and I think they maybe turned it down one decibel. While waiting in line to order, they had a tv on for everyone to watch and what caught my attention (and everyone else) was the topless woman on tv dancing with a Mexican rockstar on stage then she starts to lift her skirt to everyone in the audience. WTF?? I ordered something basic... Carne Asada burrito and my husband ordered a carnita gordita/2 tacos of pastor (Not made with the usual pineapple special vertical rotisserie they shave off from). I ordered beans/rice for the girls. The rice/beans came out first. The rice was a fake bright orange color with no visible signs of onion or garlic or tomatoes...the rice was way overcooked and bland with a flavor profile I can not describe. My burrito came with shaved thin meat (Like gyro meat) and as stuffed with that stuff they called Mexican rice and white cheese that was cold and not even close to being melted.... I can't forget about their lettuce garnish. That was a nice touch. NOT I beans were watery black beans with decent flavor but more like a soup. Eeek! I tried my husbands and not because I wanted to but for this review. His pastor was bland mystery meat and the fixins were the basics. The finale was his 20 min late gordita that was oil-logged on the outside and the carnitas were cooked as if in a poaching of oil. Sooo disgusting! My husband put a napkin over it in hopes they wouldn't notice that he didn't even eat anymore past 2 bites. Oh and I can't finish this review without mentioning that we kindly asked them one more time after they continually kept raising the music back to where it was over and over. No one smiles in this place and they obviously made sure to let us know that we were not welcomed. I need an advil now just for reliving that experience. Oh and I forgot... The green onion side is suppose to be grilled, not steamed! Someone call the police on this place!

This place is not fancy by any means but the food is SOOO good!! It's definitely authentic! I've had their soupa de res, tacos, quesadillas and sandwich in the past and were never disappointed! Love the pork belly tacos! The food is not expensive either. It's a great place for a quick authentic lunch. The only thing that I wish could be better is that I wish they speak a little more English there and the tables are sometimes sticky.

I adore their food! It's authentic it's delicious and incredibly good. Try the Gorditas inexpensive and wonderful. Only issue is the language. Unfortunately I cannot speak Spanish and I have been told I have a 'accent' it is really hard to order sometimes. It frustrates me to no end, but still a great eat so I can get past that.

Best mole of my life, but TWO little pieces of dark meat for $10? Still...the best sauce I have tasted.

First, let me admit my California elitist attitude when it comes to Mexican food. For context when I was around 10 years old, my family once met for thanksgiving dinner in a small park in Southern California. We made tri tip, carne asada, rice , beans...you know...the staples. Now, let me draw a comparison for those not raised on authentic Mexican food. From my experience, authentic Mexican food is not appreciated by 90% of the Maryland, DC, Va area...see what I did there avoiding the annoying Delmarva nickname or worse the DMV nickname, but I do carry on. Let me get to the review. As other reviewers mentioned, if you can Habla a little espanol, you won't be intimidated, but if not, just point and order like you would do if you were somewhere no speaka tha ingles. The restaurant was filled with Latino families. There was the requisite gaudy shrine to a catholic saint complete with big outdoor Xmas lights. Soccer on tv. Working men ordered huge bowls of soup. So yeah...this place reminds me of many like it in my hometown of Las Salas or Salinas, California. Chorizo and egg torta. It was right. The filling was what I hoped to taste, but I missed out on the line of red oil that runs down my arm when I order Chorizo and egg from Rositas in Salinas. The sandwich was good. Next time I will order the same but as a burrito and I will successfully navigate the language barrier so I can get melty Monterey Jack or similar but not 7-11 pump cheese on it. As it happened I did not get any cheese and that is fine. The tacos were correct, if a little too much on the beef jerky side for carne asada. Lots of onion and cilantro. Served with radish, wilted green onion and salsa verde. What you would expect from the kills taco shop. The corn tortillas are home made and tasty but and I admit this is nitpicking, the tortillas are too thick for corn tortilla, but maybe I'm just used to Jalisco and Zacatecas region and with all the Salvador and other Latin transplant families, this may be the way they do it. The flautas were more like flour chimichangas, but nothing great. I won't order those again. The chile relleno was scratch made. Kick ass hot pepper, very cheese filled. I liked it. Kids meal tacos and fries was way too many onions and too much spice for my 3 year old, but hey he is only three. The fries were ok if you like really oily fries. They didn't gyp you on the cotija cheese or veg. So, I will be back again, but probably just for my own meal. My southern family didn't really dig the authentic flavor. When I asked if they thought Chipotle was better they asked if there was even a comparison. I like Chipotle too so...happy wife, happy life but I will eat in with the Pozole next in my target.

When I heard Taqueria Tres Reyes opened up a new location, I was excited to try it out. I am a HUGE five-star fan of the food at the Kenilworth joint, but don't venture out there for reasons I won't get into. Anyhoo, just had lunch here today and I was not disappointed! The joint is pretty big -- maybe twice the size of the Kenilworth location. Everything appears to be pretty new, complete with flat-screen TVs with menu items. While they look nice; they flash maybe eight items at a time on the screen, and you kinda have to stand there and wait to see the complete menu. Um, no thank you. I already knew what I wanted; but if you don't, they have traditional menus as well. The place wasn't crowded (big difference from the other location) and I was able to go up to the register and order. I ordered my usual two carne asada tacos and rice, which came out pretty quickly. When I got my food, I was surprised to see that the food looked a wee bit different from the food at the Kenilworth location. The meat wasn't chopped into little pieces as I am used to, and it didn't have the char that I like. The meat was in big chunks and looked a little grey. Whatevs, not a deal breaker since it tasted fine. There was plenty of meat, served up in two corn tortillas with ciantro and onion on top. And the rice -- it was fantastic! The location is part of a little strip mall on Annapolis Road and 85th Avenue, so it shares a parking lot with other establishments, including a Cricket Wireless. There's plenty of parking but there's only one entrance/exit which is off of 85th Avenue. If only this location could make the quality of food made at the other location, it'd be perfect. Otherwise food is solid and fairly inexpensive; two tacos, rice and a bottle of Diet Coke cost me $10.02. I'll definitely be back.

There is a branch off Kenilworth but this one recently opened in Lanham. 3 Reyes really does it right with everything off their menu. The food is extremely fresh and made to order.... even their rice has such a fresh bite to it. Tacos dorados was pretty tasty, though I couldn't tell the chicken from the pork--all was the same to me. The portions are great, and too much for a little one like myself. If I had any gripe about this place, it would be more flavor in their foods (perhaps too spoiled by Taco Bar?), but for how fresh the food was and large selections of it, I was quite pleased.
